草野球に年齢は関係ないと思った１日だった。

先日、所属している草野球リーグ公式戦の抽選会があり、あるチームの監督とゆっくり話す機会があった。なんとその監督は今年59歳で、今も現役です。

ピッチャーで登板する事もあれば、野手でバッティングや守備。塁に出れば盗塁を狙います。

もう一度言いますが、今年59歳です。

59歳で野球できる方がどれだけいるでしょうか？

どうすれば長く続けられるのか？と聞いたら、野球を続ける事だと教えてもらいました。「59歳にもなって、白いボールを一緒懸命追いかけている」と笑って言っていました。

その監督が本格的に野球を始めたのは20歳になってから。それからずっと野球を続けてるそうです。「学生時代野球をやっていた選手に負けたくないという気持ちがあった」と言っていました。

野球歴は39年、かなりのベテランです。学生時代に野球をやっていたとしても、たかが10年前後。始めることに年齢は関係ないとわかる。

59歳なった今でもプロ野球などを見て、上手くなるために勉強していると言っていました。年齢に伴って運動能力と気力が衰えていきます。でも、野球が上手くなりたいと思う向上心を持ち続けてることが特に凄いと思った。

能力が衰えてくるとそれに合わせてプレースタイルを変化させていくようです。昔は足の速さと肩の強さに自信があったが、今ではバントや右打ちといぶし銀の活躍を目指してプレーされているようです。

私は28歳になって、まだ野球をやっているの？と言われることがあります。側から見るとそう見えるのでしょう。でも、面白いから続けています。まだ上手くなりたいと思って、草野球をやっています。

草野球に年齢は関係ない。

この監督のように体が動くまで、1年でも長く野球をしていたいと改めて思った。
